Pep Guardiola Slams Raheem Sterling Row Rumours
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has denied reports of a rift between him and winger Raheem Sterling.
The rumour mill was set into motion after Sterling was notably absent from the matchday squad that gained a 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday, 13 March. He was also an unused substitute during his club’s 5-2 win against Southampton three days earlier.
Speaking to a media outlet on Monday, 15 March, Guardiola dismissed speculation that there was bad blood between him and the 26-year-old Englishman.
The Spanish coach explained: “I do not expect they are happy, the guys who do not play and who are not selected, so it is normal. That has always happened since football was created. [Sterling], in this case, is so important for the team and for all of us. All the players respect my decisions.”
Sterling has travelled with the squad for their UEFA Champions League clash with Borussia Monchengladbach in Budapest today, Tuesday 16 March.
